On this date in 1991 - Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms developed over southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi. A severe thunderstorm produced a weak F1 tornado that briefly touched down in New Orleans. The tornado was on the ground for about one quarter mile and tore the roof of of a church. The storm also produced nickel-sized hail in New Orleans East. In total, the storm was responsible for roughly $25,000 in damage. Strong winds and hail were also common through the Baton Rouge area, and along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
