On this date in Ranger History, the 75th Ranger Regiment Special Troops Battalion is officially activated at Fort Benning, Ga. After being activated provisionally, July 17, 2006, as a response to the demands of the war on terror and the changing nature of Ranger operations. The activation of the Regimental Special Troops Battalion provided the Ranger Regiment and the Special Operations Command with an increased operational capability to sustain combat operations. Then LTC Brian Eifler and Command Seargent Major Dennis Smith were the first official command team of the battalion. Rangers Lead the Way!
