On this day, 22 years ago, Mary J. Blige started a 2-week run at #1 on the Billboard R&B Singles Chart with her hit single “Real Love” from her debut album “What’s the 411?” The single was written and produced by Mark C. Rooney and Mark Morales (Prince Markie Dee of the Fat Boys). They built the track around the drum sample from the 1988 single “Top Billin’” by Audio Two. The drumbreak was originally sampled from The Honey Drippers 1973 single “Impeach the President.”
