On this day, 452, Attila the Hun, along with his buddies, invaded Italy. On paper I suppose it’s not a big deal since there have been invasions throughout history. But Mr. Hun lived in Mongolia which is roughly 4,000 miles from Italy. There weren’t cell phones or TV’s so how did he even know the place existed? This is about 800 years before Marco Polo. Well, Mr. Hun was clearly one of the most feared of all conquerors and “owned” most of Asia and Europe (see map). It turns out that his invasion didn’t go that well. Attila’s forces couldn’t take Rome and he kicked the bucket the next year before another attempt could be made.
