On this day I remember my great-grandfather, Clayton Fisher, who served in WWI and harken back to the memories of him sprawled out on his La-Z-boy listening to Johnny Mosts Red Sox broadcasts or watching M*A*S*H. I am grateful for the Dominican Republic which gave those who survived from mothers family shelter from the horrors of Nazi Germany. I give thanks that my father decided to come to Canada rather than fight a colonialist war in Vietnam. And I quietly curse people who misuse the phrase fighting for freedom, and fear for the wars over water, food and the essentials of life that are coming our way.
