On this day (Sept. 30) in 1977: Ian Dury, former lead vocalist with Pub Rock band Kilburn & The High Roads, released his first solo album New Boots & Panties!! on Stiff Records (SEEZ 4); the title derived from Ians habit of buying clothes second hand, refering to the only items he insisted on buying new; it included such tracks as Wake Up and Make Love With Me, Sweet Gene Vincent, Billericay Dickie & Clever Trevor; contrary to popular belief, the album is not credited to Ian Dury & The Blockheads, as the band was not formed until the labels Live Stiffs tour some months later, & two of the band do not play on the album…
