On this day, back in 1977, Elvis performed his second to last - TopicsExpress

On this day, back in 1977, Elvis performed his second to last concert at the Riverfront Coliseum in Cincinnati, OH at 8:30 pm. During this concert, he decides to perform Unchained Melody at the piano with help from Charlie Hodge holding the microphone for him. This would be the last performance of this song sung by Elvis, as he would not sing it during his final concert the next day. Towards the end during the God speed your love, to me part, he decides to hold the note out to the end. If you watch the CBS Special version from the June 21, 1977 Rapid City, SD concert, you see he sort of growls and decides not to try and hold it out (which he was obviously capable of doing, as documented four days later during this June 25th Cincinnati concert). Its sort of ironic that the last time that he would perform Unchained Melody, he would do it with such magnificence and when compared to previous performances of this song sung live by Elvis, he would actually decide to hold the note out all the way through the audiences applause (which is something that he rarely did). Hearing Elvis hold out this note, documents that even though he was in the poor condition that he was in, he was still able to amaze and captivate his audience like no other performer through his remarkable and God given talent.
