On this day in 1934: Down with segregation, up with tanks! The post newspaper ran the following cutline: The crushing power of the mighty land battleship, the mark VIII tank, was displayed when two of the 44-pound monsters demolished the last of the old negro housing into a heap. The buildings, described as splintered kindling, had stood at the Infantry post since they served as plantation cabins before the Civil War for laborers on the old Woolfolk estate, a 5,000 acre plantation located on the land now designated as Main Post.
