On this day in 1955, American journalist Dorothy Kilgallen reported from London, claiming the scientific and aeronautic authorities of Great Britain, after having examined the remains of a mysterious airship of conventional form - have come to the conclusion that these strange flying objects do not represent optical illusions, nor are they Soviet inventions, but that we have to deal with objects that really fly and that originate from some other planet. But Dorothy Kilgallens most interesting piece of history has to do with her jailhouse interview of Jack Ruby, and suspicions the FBI was disingenuous in their investigation of the JFK assassination. In sept 1965, she said That story isnt going to die as long as theres a real reporter alive, and there are a lot of them alive. That was the last sentence in her column item about Marina Oswald possible knowledge of the doctoring of an incriminating snapshot she had taken of Lee holding a rifle - you know the one. Kilgallen was found dead in her apartment of the a supposed overdose of barbiturates about a month later. Controversy has swirled about her death, just like that of Marilyn Monroe ever since.
