On this day in 1975 Americas Apollo CSM-111 spacecraft docked with the Soviet Unions Soyuz 7K-TM spacecraft in low-Earth orbit. Within hours, the hatches between the two craft were opened and the crews met. Although the missions primary purpose was diplomatic, the astronauts conducted scientific experiments, including a measurement of the Suns corona by Soyuz as Apollo was deliberately maneuvered to obscure Soyuzs view of the solar disk.
