On this day in.... 2003: Christian (c) vs Rob Van Dam in a Ladder Match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship, WWE Raw on September 29th, 2003. While Stone Cold Steve Austin was a popular Co-General Manager of Raw with the WWE fans, he wasnt that popular with several members of the Raw roster. Two particular individuals who werent so keen on Austins reign, were Chris Jericho, and the WWE Intercontinental Champion, Christian, who both voiced their concerns about the way they were getting treated by him. Austin would take their comments on board, before taking action that would see Christian putting his belt on the line... Jericho and Christian would complain about the lack of matches they were getting, or in Y2Js case, lack of main event action for him. After putting the two against each other in a Intercontinental Title match (which Christian cheated to win), the Canadian duo would go on to hijack an episode of Raw, wanting action taken against Stone Cold. Fed up of their complaining, Austin booked Jericho in a match with Rob Van Dam, with the winner getting an Intercontinental Title shot, only for Christian to attack both. Therefore, Austin made it a Triple Threat at WWE Unforgiven. When it came time for the triple threat, Christian used underhand tactics once more to retain. Without the ref spotting it, Christian brought the Intercontinental Title into the ring, so when RVD came off the top rope to hit the 5 Star Frog Splash, Christian used the belt to shield the blow, before rolling RVD up for the win. Not happy with how things went down, Austin gave RVD another chance the following night, only for Christian to get himself intentionally disqualified, using the belt once more to strike RVD, before grabbing a ladder, climbing it, and delivering a Frog Splash of his own. Seeing that, gave Austin an idea, booking RVD to face Christian in a Ladder Match. One week later, the September 29th, 2003 episode of WWE Raw from the Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois would see Rob Van Dam face Christian in a Ladder Match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship as its main event.
