On this day in history In 1971, Joe Frazier defeated Muhammad Ali by decision in what was billed as The Fight of the Century at Madison Square Garden in New York. I remember this clearly as my sister and I were at my grandmothers apartment and the fight was blacked out. She had a transistor radio sitting on her old sewing machine and after each round the station would give a little news. She was rooting for Cassius Clay if my memory serves right. Those were the days when boxing was interesting. That era ended when Tyson ended. I couldnt tell you the name of any fighters any more, what weight class they fight in or who they fight. Ali, Frazier, Norton, Foreman, Spinks, Leonard, Duran, Hearn, Camacho, Holmes, Balboa (hahaha) and Tyson. Thats it for me. Todays crop not only dont I know, but I dont care that I dont know.
