On this day in music history: September 1, 1986 - “Break Every Rule”, the sixth solo album by Tina Turner is released. Produced by Terry Britten, Bryan Adams, Neil Dorfsman, Richard Elen, Mark Knopfler, Bob Clearmountain, Albert Boekholt, and Rupert Hine, it is recorded at Abbey Road Studios, CBS Studios in London, The Farmyard in Cotswolds, Buckinghamshire, UK, Mountain Studios in Montreux, Switzerland, Little Mountain Studios, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and The Power Station in New York City from Late 1985 - Mid 1986. Issued as the follow up to her hugely successful comeback album “Private Dancer”, it features a number of prominent guest musicians including Phil Collins, Mark Knopfler, Bryan Adams, and Steve Winwood providing instrumental support. It will spin off five hit singles including “Typical Male” (#2 Pop and R&B), “Two People” (#30 Pop, #18 R&B), and the title track (#74 Pop). “Break Every Rule” will peak at #4 on the Billboard Top 200, and is certified Platinum by the RIAA.
