On this day on the WW1 Western Front. August 6. 1914 – Liege: Forts Barchon, Chaudefontaine and Evequee silenced. Longwy invested by the Germans. 1915 – 1916 – Slight British progress east of Pozieres towards Martinpuich. German attacks at Thiaumont work and in Vaux-Chapitre Wood repulsed (Verdun). 1917 – 1918 – Germans attack south of Morlancourt (south of Albert), retaking part of Australian gains. General Foch promoted Marshal of France. 1919 – Britain: Peerages, etc., awarded to high Naval and Military Commanders.
