On this solemn day, I thought I would share a personal story about 9/11. Those of us on the West Coast woke up to unspeakable horror that morning. I was a stay at home mom at the time, and had just grabbed my coffee and turned on the news. As a world history teacher, I knew instantly who was responsible for the attack. My then one year old son Caleb was riding his horsey scooter around the coffee table. I was struck by the juxtaposition of pure innocence with images of pure evil just behind him. I snapped a picture. Then I saw the second plane hit, live. I cannot describe what I felt. Eight years later I took my kids to the 9/11 site, where the Freedom Tower was being constructed, and snapped a picture of Caleb on site. I cant wait to bring him back there to pay tribute to the newly named One World Trade Center building that now proudly stands 1776 feet tall. Never forget.
