On today’s jam-packed Casual Fridays radio show, we chat in the studio with region historian James Lane to talk about his latest “Steel Shavings” book, which captures the sights, sounds and events of Northwest Indiana in great detail. We’ll also talk with 18-year-old Keon Brown, the heralded hero who rescued a female motorist after she suffered a seizure and crashed into his familys East Chicago home. Keon, who reacted like a veteran firefighter more than a high school senior, will tell Lakeshore listeners his story and how the incident has changed his life, including an appearance on the “Ellen” TV talk show. And with Lt. Joe Hamer, investigator for the Lake County Sheriff Work Release Division whose program and facility is facing closure despite his beliefs that it’s a huge mistake. Plus, we’ll tell you the best al fresco dining spots in NWI and Chicago, recommended by YOU. And we’ll touch on the 70th anniversary of D-Day today and my column that profiles a handful of World War II vets. If you have a comment or question for us or our guests, call in at 769-9577. As Karen Barloga Walker always says on air, Don’t be shy. Tune in today at noon at 89.1-FM, streaming online at: lakeshorepublicmedia.org/local-programs/casual-fridays/
