On top of last night simply being a great show, it was like I - TopicsExpress

On top of last night simply being a great show, it was like I suddenly realized many of my old friends have made so much personal and musical progression in the years Ive known them. Both Sam Yacopsae and Frank Begrimes have been around forever and played in bands that, while I enjoyed them thoroughly, were never really what most people would consider to be musically proficient. Now they are both playing in technically demanding and extremely tight bands. Ive known Durell Smith for as long as most, and have seen him transform from a dorky kid in a bad metalcore band (dont worry - Ill admit I was also in a bad metalcore band at the time as well) to one of the most prolific and fantastic drummers in Edmonton. Every single time he hits one of those things its like that single hit in that moment will be the last thing he ever does and wants to be remembered for it. Hes the definition of giving it his all. Jah Mattie has been in a slew of bands over the years, but in my opinion most of them were either just a bit too silly or didnt quite gel the way he had envisioned them to. Its nice to see that hes finally in a serious project that is both well thought out and well executed. When I met both Michael Wagner and Bradtalitarian Regime, they were already fantastic musicians with monstrous chops, and its nice to see that theyre both involved in projects that are musically exciting and relevant. Long live Edmonton (and Winnipeg) hardcore. Its not just the music that makes these places special, its the people involved in them.
