On working at Sombrero Stables this past summer: Take me back! Take me back, to those early mornings of crisp mountain air that took my breath away and sent chills down my back. Take me back to the feed truck where I bounced along, sometimes falling off, providing nutrients to our trusty steeds and friends. Take me back to the challenge of guiding people through the Roosevelt National Forest. Take me back to the the leather skin tanned by 14 hour work days. Take me back to the rain that came almost daily at 2 and left rainbows for me to enjoy. Take me back to the days off spent exploring the Rocky Mountains. Take me back to the meadows full of wild flowers. Take me back to the valleys full of grass up to the horses bellies and rivers coursing through the sea of forage causing little water falls which sang the seasons chorus. Take me back to evenings set aflame with colors from the largest crayon box ever known. Take me back to the cool evenings filled with bon-fires where we laughed, ate great food, and just enjoyed each others company. Take me back to the rush of racing our steeds on wrangler rides through the trees, challenging the wind, drinking in the view. Take me back to the drives down the canyon to the swing dance club where we tore up the floor with spins, dips, and flips. Take me back to the death defying jeep rides. Take me back to the people who called my temporary family, who fought against and for each other. Take me back to the people who made last summer the best summer of my entire life. Take me back to the memories we made together during concerts and rodeos. Take me back to the place and people who stole a portion of my heart for the rest of my life. Take me back to Sombrero Ranches at Estes Park, Co. Take me back to summer freedom!!!!!!!!!! - Beautifully written by our own summer wrangler, Stetson Schmutz.
