#OnThisDay in 1879, Germany and Austria-Hungary signed the Dual Alliance, a defensive treaty which made the two countries allies in the First World War. The treaty stated that the countries would provide aid to each other in case of an attack from Russia, and also agreed that they would remain neutral in case of conflict with another European power (this was generally believed to be referring to France). #York1914
