Once a stronghold of Hizbul Mujahideen, Palhallan came to limelight at the peak of summer unrest in Kashmir Valley in 2010 when the villagers were put under two-and-a-half month of severe curfew. Officials says more than 300 civilians have been killed here in the last 24 years of conflict. Villagers claim that more than 110 of them were ordinary civilians. In the last few years, Palhallan has become a hotbed of resistance. Especially after the 2010 uprising when 122 teenagers were killed in different parts of the state in three months of retaliatory action by armed forces against stone pelters, Palhallan emerged as one of the most ‘sensitive’ places. Three teenagers were killed on a single day to foil protests that had swept through Kashmir Valley. ( “It is a moment of pride for me that Bilal has achieved martyrdom. You should bid him farewell happily,” she told the roaring crowd which responded with slogans of freedom and liberation from Indian rule. Admin:- #izhan-sofi
