Once again I was looking for some sort of leadership and words of unity from President Obama in his State of the Union address this evening. Unfortunately though, his speech was nothing more than the same empty promises that the American people have become accustomed to hearing over the past five years. Tonights speech again demonstrates the Presidents lack of commitment to sound constitutional principles and his deficient understanding of how to fix the problems facing America. He believes that government can legislate economic equality; it cannot. He believes that higher taxes, more government programs, and additional regulations will improve the economy; they will not. He believes that he holds the power to rule by administrative fiat; he does not. More than ever, the American people need leaders who understand the proper role of government. We deserve an honest, transparent government with elected officials who are committed to effectively solving problems rather than pointing fingers. Unfortunately, President Obama fails to provide that kind of much needed leadership.
