The various Oscar prediction polls Im seeing have IMITATION GAME and THEORY OF EVERYTHING in basically the #2 and #3 slots in the Best Picture race, despite the overall critical consensus being that they are liked without being overtly loved. I frankly cant imagine either of them ending up on that many best-of lists over the next six weeks. Are the predictions based on the notion that they will appeal to the stereotypical Academy voter due to their prestigious veneer and British-ness as opposed to more divisive, less commercial, but passionately championed entertainments like WHIPLASH or BIRDMAN or am I missing something else less obvious?
