Once again, the earth has turned and the calendar tells us that - TopicsExpress

Once again, the earth has turned and the calendar tells us that the High Holidays are around the corner. Once again, we are calling upon our temple family to participate in Am Echad’s Annual Food Drive where we supply Manna for our hungry neighbors. Once again, we are mailing each of you Manna Bags, in the hope that you will fill them with as much non-perishable food as you can, and bring that Manna to the temple between Rosh Hashonah and Yom Kippor. We will gather it and get it delivered to where it is needed most. Until we can do without food pantries and soup kitchens we will help to stock their shelves. Once again (as in STILL), there are thousands of Long Islanders who remain “food insecure”. They are not sure where their next meal is coming from. Your contributions and our collection will make some of their lives more bearable. Last year you contributed just over five thousand pounds of “Manna”. Once again, we will try to meet or beat that goal. Once again, I ask you to do what you can to pile the food as high as we can in the entry of our synagogue. The bigger the pile, the greater the pride and the more Manna we ship to those who do not choose to fast but have little choice. Once again, you will find an envelope from MAZON: A JEWISH RESPONSE TO HUNGER within your Manna mailing. While we make our food contribution once a year, MAZON fights all year long against the causes of hunger and for ways to end hunger forever in the US and in Israel. If you can make a donation to MAZON you will be joining that ongoing fight and help to change things from as they are to what they should be. Once again, I thank you for your concern and for your generosity. Please watch for your white Manna envelope at your home. I look forward to the time when we don’t have to ask all of you to do this “Once Again”. Respectfully, David Napell
