“Once the distinction between the right to property and its use - TopicsExpress

“Once the distinction between the right to property and its use is understood, it is quite easy to detect the two basic economic errors of the present day, Capitalism and Communism. Capitalism insists on the right to property but forgets its social use; Communism insists on the social use but forgets the personal rights; the Church insists on the personal right conditioned by the common good. “There is therefore a double danger to be assiduously avoided. On the one hand, if the social and public aspect of ownership be denied or minimized we fall into Individualism, as it is called or something akin to it; on the other hand, the rejection or diminution of its private and individual character necessarily leads one into Collectivism, or at least compels one to adopt its tenets (Quadragesimo Anno, § 46).” Capitalism says: “This is mine for me”; Communism says: “This is ours for us, but I, the dictator, tell you how much is yours.” Catholicism says: “This is mine for us.” Capitalism is private persons swallowing social purpose; Communism is social purpose swallowing private persons; Catholicism is private persons living for social purposes.” Freedom Under God, (1940/2013) Excerpt page 54. amazon/Freedom-Under-God-Fulton-Sheen/dp/0944997112/ref=sr_1_22?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1378726282&sr=1-22 (Quadragesimo Anno, § 46). vatican.va/holy_father/pius_xi/encyclicals/documents/hf_p-xi_enc_19310515_quadragesimo-anno_en.html
