Once the most common of wildlife, the New England cottontail now faces threatened or even endangered status under the US Endangered Species Act, due to habitat loss and competition from its invasive cousin, the eastern cottontail. Habitat restoration projects like this one seek to shelter the rabbits. Two SUNY-ESF graduate students are participating, performing research to learn more about New England cottontail ecology and the pressures facing them.
