Once upon a time a vast host lived in a world far away from ours. Whether far away in time and space, or even outside of time and space, we do not know. They lived in a state of enlightenment and joy that few today dare to believe. One day an elder of the host called a meeting. They gathered around, and he spoke very somberly. “My friends,” he said, “There is a planet that needs our help. Its creatures have reached a critical point in their collective thinking, and will be stillborn without our help. Who would like to volunteer and render service to humanity?” “Tell us more,” they asked. “I’m glad you asked because it’s no small mission. I will place you into a deep sleep, so profound you will fail to remember who you are. You will live a human life, and for a time, forget your origins, your languages even your true name. You will be separated from the majesty of our world, and from the love that bathes us all. You will miss it deeply, yet you will not know what you are missing. You will only remember the love and beauty that we know to be normal, as a longing in your heart. Your memories of a complete world will fade as you plunge into the painfully marred planet. The elder continued. “As you grow, your knowledge will be under constant assault. You will be told a world of destruction, violence, drudgery, anxiety and degradation is common place. You’ll go through a time of isolation, with no allies to affirm your knowledge of a complete world. You may plunge into a depth of despair; that we, in our world cannot imagine. “You see, even though you will feel for a time utterly alone, you will not be. I will send you help, help that you will experience as miraculous. For moments, hours or even days you will awaken to beauty and joy. You will see it all around you. For even though this planet and its people are wounded, there is beauty projected from past and future into a present as promise. As you begin to awaken, you’ll accept the help from each other. You will recognize them by a common bond, and as the condition of the planet waivers, your paths will be forever intertwined. The time of loneliness will be over. “Yet in the time of loneliness you will thirst and hunger for stories of atrocities, wars and rumors which confirm your intuition that a complete world exists. Also a sense of betrayal will overcome you, when they don’t listen. “But after you have fully received the help that I will send you, a shift; a quickening will take place in face to face gatherings all over the planet. The quickening of your gatherings will increase and you will no longer hunger or thirst, because you will know. When many of you gather together the mission that lay unconscious within will break forth into song. They asked, “How do you know?” The elder replied, “I know; because I have. Many have gone before you to live human lives, and lay foundations for the mission you will now undertake. They asked, “Is there a danger we will become lost and never wake up? Is there a danger that despair, cynicism, pain of separation; be so great, the spark of hope will be extinguished, the spark of true self and origin separated forever?” The elder replied, “It is impossible. The greater the lost, the more powerful the help becomes. You might experience a deep collapse of your personal world, the loss of everything important to you, but later you will understand the gift within. We will never abandon you.” Another asked, “Is it possible that our mission will fail, and that this planet will perish?” The elder replied, “I will answer your question. It is impossible that your mission will fail. Yet, its success depends on your own actions. The key to this lies within you. In every action, even your personal secret struggles within, have significance. You will know then, as you do now, that everything you do matters.” There were no more questions. The volunteers gathered in a circle, and the elder went to each one. The last thing each was aware of was the elder breathing in their faces. They entered a deep sleep and dreamed themselves into the world where we find ourselves today.
