Once upon a time, an old man lived with his seven sons in a village. All his seven sons were hard workers. Still, none of them agreed with each other and quarreled all the time. The old man tried a lot to unite them but he failed. While the villagers were surprised at their hard work and efforts, they also made fun of them on their fights. One day, the man called them together and informed them that he wished to demonstrate just what their lack of cooperative effort meant. He had prepared a bundle of seven sticks which he had carefully tied together. One by one he asked his sons to take the bundle and break it. Each son tried, but in vain. Then he cut the strings and handed one of the sticks to each of his sons and asked his to break it over their knees. After the sticks had all been broken with ease, he said: “When you boys work together in a spirit of unity you are like the bundle of sticks, and no one can defeat you; but when you quarrel among yourselves, and are separated and alone; anyone can defeat you one at a time. The seven sons understood the power of unity and promised their father that whatever be the problem, they would all stick together. Moral: Unity is Strength!
