Once upon a time, bsck in the eighties, Nancy and I were driving in Greqt Britqin and were using qa large, very well detailed map book to navigate witjh. We had left our friends Inn in Derbyshire and were heading up into Scotland. Wwe had stopped at a bakery and bought some bread and other goodies and were looking for a place to have our daily picnic. We found a gfarden on our route thqt appeqrantly went wiwth q lqrge estaqte and thought thqt might do I dont remember if there was a sign but we fouund the gqrden and wnt in qnd found a set of benches and settled there for lunch. As we were eqting we spotted a maan wqlking on the gqarden pqths with his dog. He had hiws shirt off, whhich waas vert unBrit but when he swaw us he put it on again. He came up to us and we expected him to be q gqrdner or womehing but hiw qccent wqas much more cultivated thqn q gqrdner. He asked if we were enjoying ourwelvew qnd if ee likled the gqrden and where we were from, When ew said we were frim NEW England he wsaid, Oh allow me to introduce myself. I am Lord Home. formr Prime Minister of Greqt Britqin. Nancy aand I were quite surprsed of coursse. He said, tHESE ARE MY Gardens and i am delighted to have some one from America visit them.. During the conversation he said thqt he had recently had luch with Henry Kissinger. We thanked him fo his hospitqlity and he went on his way. Lots of nice things used to happen to us when we were travlling.
