Ondo PDP crisis resolved UPROAR generated by the defection of the Ondo State governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) appears to have settled, as chieftains of the party in the state have agreed to the leadership of the party by the governor. Apart from this, a sharing formula for elective positions was said to have been adopted by the leaders of the party. This was the fallout of a meeting of leaders of the two divides in the party, held with the state governor, at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, from Tuesday evening till the early hours of Wednesday. Those in attendance included a former Nigerian Ambassador to Greece, Professor Olu Agbi, Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs and chairman of amnesty programme, Kingsley Kuku and the Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Gbenga Elegbeleye The meeting was said to have agreed that the governor would nominate candidates for 18 out of the 26 members in the state House of Assembly, while the group formally in the PDP would nominate candidates for the remaining eight seats. Also, Mimiko is expected to bring forward six candidates out of the nine House of Representativesseats and the old PDP members to produce three, while the governor’s group will also nominate two senators with the remaining one going to the original PDP members. The governor and other leaders of the party, however, agreed to work together in the interest of the state and the country in general, in order to ensure total victory for President Goodluck Jonathan, come 2015. This was as the governor promised to be just in his dealings with members of the party. The governor told the gathering that he did not return to the PDP to cause crisis, but to build a united and dependable party that would become the envy of all. Mimiko said contrary to insinuation in some quarters, he came to the party to build and not to destroy it. The governor said: “I want to pledge that by the grace of the Almighty God, I will be just and every decision will have the input of all stakeholders and whatever elective position are there to be contested will be shared amicably.” He added however that “there is need to generate trust so that we can move forward.” Reacting, Professor Agbi commended the governor for his presentation, which he said had allayed the fears of members of the party. The former ambassador said: “Lstening to you (Mimiko), I am happy and believe you will take the party to the next level.” Agbi, however, suggested that a committee be put in place to look at the proposal of the governor for the advancement of the party. Also speaking, Kuku commended the governor for returning to the PDP, adding that the development would further enhance the chances of the party in the state. The presidential aide, however, urged members, who had instituted a legal action over the development in the party to withdraw the case, because according to him, PDP was a big and disciplined party with internal mechanism for settlement of crisis. Briefing newsmen at the end of the meeting, a former Commissioner for Information and Orientation in the state, Chief Eddy Olafeso, said the leaders had agreed to work together for the success of the party. He added that agreement had been reached for consensus candidates for the party in the coming elections. In the same vein, the immediate past publicity secretary in the dissolved party executive in the state, Wale Ozogoro, said members of the party were committed to the transformational agenda of President Jonathan and must work to give him over a million vote at the polls next year. Others at the meeting were Dr Adewumi Abitoye, Chief Alex Akinnnadeju, Dr Bode Iwaloye, Chief Bamidele Adeladun, Kingsley Kuku, Honourable Akintoye Albert, Honourable Agboola Ajayi, Honourable Victor Olabimtan, Honourable Adedayo Omolafe, Honourable Mayowa Akinfolarin.
