One - Gods Thoughts. While praying the other day I told the Lord I dont understand exactly how it works, Them being Father, Son and Holy Spirit; three but also one. Then this thought popped into my head: One in mind; one in purpose; one in action. And suddenly it made so much more sense to me. On more than one occasion Jesus said He only said what He heard the Father say, and He only did what He saw the Father do. He also said the Holy Spirit does not speak of His own initiative, but He speaks what He hears. That means the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit says exactly the same thing, and They do exactly the same thing. Then there is the purpose part. Ever since the fall of humankind in the Garden of Eden God had a plan for our redemption. The Father prophesied about the coming of His Son; at the right time the Holy Spirit caused Mary to conceive and Jesus was born. This is but only a glimpse of the purpose of God and how Father, Son and Holy Spirit are of the same purpose as well. God wants us to also be one - one with Him and one with each other. Jesus prayed for us to be one, just as He and the Father are one (John 17:22). And in a lot of Pauls letters we see him instructing the church he wrote to (and us as well), to be of the same mind, to maintain the same love, to be united in spirit, and to be intent on one purpose. The Lord wants His body to function in unity. He wants us to be of the same mind, the same purpose, the same words, the same action He is with the Father and the Holy Spirit. Imagine if we were obedient, if we only did what God told us to do; only said what He told us to say; and if we were focusing on His purpose (which is the redemption of all mankind) instead of being focused our own purposes and interests. How different the world would look! I know we cannot do this without the help of the Lord, but I also know we can do all things in Him that strengthens us. Let us remember to pray each day for God to help us be of one mind, one purpose, one action - His!
