One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest will be directed by Donald Formaneck Billed as a Dramatic Comedy… There are more dramatic moments than comedic. However, when you are dealing with the condition of mental health facilities, what can one expect. Written fifty years ago and not too much has changed… One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest Cast Breakdown All ages are relatively flexible. More interested in personalities and the relationships they create. The concept we are working on is a Twilight Zone episode . Everything in black and white… including the characters. Except for those from the outside i.e.. McMurphy, Candy and Sandra, who would be in color. It will be set in 1962 with clothing and hairstyles to suit the situation. I am looking for two men interested in creating chronic characters. It will be something of an acting exercise. We will create worlds that exist in the minds of the characters (and therefore, the actors) that they will live in, while on stage. No scripted lines, but some freedom to improvise when appropriate. In addition, these two actors would serve as Understudies for the other characters if needed. THE PATIENTS Ruckly- Older, vacant as a result of too much EST or possible lobotomy. Randle P. McMurphy - Shaggy. with long sideburns. A devilish grin and a face battered and scarred across nose and cheekbone. He wears a black motorcyclists’ cap, an ancient brown leather jacket and jeans faded almost to whiteness. On his feet, lumberman‘s boots with a ring of steel in the heels. A wide-open extroverted air. * Not looking for a Jack Nicholson impersonation. Chief Bromden- Columbia River Indian, Large in stature, but made small by circumstance . Narrator… Dale Harding - He is in his late thirties, handsome, effeminite. Billy Bibbit - In age, almost thirty, but appears more like a boy. Scanlon - a man nearly bald, in his fifties, paranoid. Cheswick - short, chubby, crew-cut; his manner alternatelytruculent and cringing. Martini – Italian. Delusional. OTHERS Candy Starr - She’s a dish. Girlfriend for hire. Sandra – A big earthy wench. THE STAFF Aide Warren and Aide Williams - Under the thumb of nurse Ratched. Take pleasure in tormenting the patients. Dr. Spivey - He is a resident psychiatrist, a pipe-smoking, glasses-fumbling, harassed fellow of no great force. Nurse Ratched - She is a handsome woman, her age hard to tell. There is an odd perfection about her: face smooth as flesh-colored enamel, skin a blend of white and cream. A brilliant warm smile, which appears often. Her body is ripe and womanly, evident even under the starched white uniform. Nurse Flinn - A vapid girl with apprehensive eyes, who wears a gold cross at her throat. Devout Catholic. Aide Turkle – Older, jaded, Overnight Aide. Two Chronics - living in worlds of their own. Will also serve as general understudies.
