One Less Gun: Officers Arrest One Suspect after a Lengthy Foot Chase and Brandishing a Firearm in Roxbury At approximately 12:27 PM officers and detectives from District B-2 (Roxbury) observed a group of 3 males walking on Humboldt Avenue approaching Ruthven Street. The officers’ attentions were drawn to one of the males in particular, due to the unusual manner in which he was walking. The male continuously looked back over his shoulder and it appeared he was holding a firearm in the front pocket of his sweatshirt. Officers continued to visually monitor the group and without provocation or warning the suspects began running on Humboldt Avenue towards Hutchings Street. At this point officers could clearly see that suspect #1 was bandishing a firearm, as he turned into the driveway of 244 Humboldt Avenue. Officers, fully aware of the circumstances and risk of an armed suspect, continued their foot pursuit while giving verbal commands and relaying detailed descriptions of their route and actions to a police dispatcher. Officers observed suspect #1 attempt to conceal himself, at the front of a parked motor vehicle, in the rear driveway of 244 Humboldt Avenue, then re-appeared before running back out towards Humboldt Avenue. After a lengthy chase officers were able to apprehend suspect #1 at 198 Humboldt Avenue, where the suspect attempted to evade and conceal his clothing from officers. Officers continued to search for suspects # 2 and 3 who made good their escape. Officers retraced the suspect #1’s route and were able to recover a black .45 caliber Hi-Point firearm in the rear of 244 Humboldt Avenue, lying on the ground behind a parked motor vehicle. Suspect #1, Greg Wright, 19, of Roxbury was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession Firearm, Unlawful possession Ammunition, Carrying a loaded Firearm on a public way and Trespassing. The Boston Police Department is actively investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding this incident.
