One Middle Class, Now No Class: October 27, 2014 at 2:46 pm (Quote) Unquestionably, the genesis of all economic and social issues confronting Singaporeans spring from a deeply flawed immigration policy, in particular close to a million of foreign PMEs (the foreign middle class) innundating this tiny city-state of ours. One job loss to a foreign PME is one too many for us the true blue Singaporeans to accept. I would venture a step further that instead of the foreign economic predators spending their earnings here to spin the economic multiplier effect, it would have been even better if our already unemployed and underemployed PMEs occupy such jobs that they earn and spend here given their constitutional birth rights and service to Singapore. Already, as Chris K said in the previous post; “It is another reason why consumption expenditure in SG economy is at such low level. The citizens don’t have much to spend becos of mortgage costs and insufficient CPF and savings. Then we have foreigner workers remitting their monies instead of saving and spending here. Middle class consumption is the mass input in the GDP.” @Money leaving SING: October 27, 2014 at 9:51 am “Then again does she really make 4K or is she lying? Someone I know went for interview with a pinoy. The pinoy was incredulous that his last drawn salary was SGD$2800.” My rejoinder: the article specifically spelt out “Philippine executive working here on an Employment Pass.” Just for your information the starting pay for the issuance of the lowest grade of Employment Pass is $3,000/= mth. $2800/= a month are for “S-Pass” foreign workers. There are obviously FTs earning more than even $5K on EPs. @ Ace: October 27, 2014 at 9:53 am (Quote) “The negative effects of the poor policies that are in place now will only show in 15 to 20 years time when these FTs start to retire back to their own country.” My rejoinder, no need to wait for 15 to 20 years time when these FTs start to retire back to their own country. We already have FT new citizen, Olympics table-tennis medalist PRC Lee Jia Wei, even though awarded new Singapore citizenship, she already scooted off back to Beijing living like a queen, abandoning Singapore. I am a PG uncle, it pains me to see such failings in my country and I worry for the next and future generations of Singaporeans having their lives snuffed out of them by this madness of an import of fake foreign talents. This is a Monday, I just came back from my weekly groceries at NTUC Fairprice to capitalize on the 3% PGP discount on all Mondays to maximize on my fast draining savings. Usually, I go on a Tuesday for the 2% senior citizens’ discount. The cashier asked if I have the PG Card (Pioneer Generation Card), I retorted yes I have the “Pia Miah Generation Card” (Hard Life Generation Card). There was a long queue of seniors behind me and all chorused in unison with me “Pia Miah Generation”. It falls on us the seniors, to champion the fight against indignations done on us Singaporeans, young and old.
