✞ One Moment ✞ ✞ ✞ One final moment - that’s what it all boils down to. A few weeks ago a precious friend who fought a long and brave battle with cancer had a heart attack left this world. Strange how you can know something is true but it is just hard to believe. It is hard to believe he is gone. I just keep thinking, it all boils down to one moment. We all spend our lives on something on many things. Some noble and purposeful, some moments wasted and regrettable. All of it builds up to one moment at which we will then face an eternity that will make our life here on earth feel like a fleeting moment. We can’t think about that moment without looking at our lives and what we’re spending them on. Are we living with an eternal focus, do we treat this world as our home? If the thought of that moment when we stand before God were at the forefront of our thoughts I am certain we’d live differently. I think that the gift, if it is to be found, in any terrible disease such as cancer is that those who bear the burden of it learn to live in the miracle of moments. Most would not take things for granted and live and love fully with the time they had remaining. From the spiritual standpoint, which cannot be ignored, we ought to live with that type of urgency in lieu of that impending “moment” for ourselves and for everyone. You may be of the belief that that moment of judgment does not exist. I simply ask you the question, what if you’re wrong? It all comes down to one big event that we’ll all be at whether we accepted or declined the invitation. My friend has had his moment, I will have mine and you, yours. The question remains: Will it be a happy or sad affair.
