One Page Wonder 161 (Time flies) My sister, Samantha, once - TopicsExpress

One Page Wonder 161 (Time flies) My sister, Samantha, once owned a watch that had a small icon of a fly on the second hand. Based on the theory that time flies it always seemed to go faster than the standard second hand of a watch. As though propelled forward by the little fly icon it seemed to really zoom along, like what happens when you are having fun. With all of that in mind, it felt appropriate that I should reflect on a whirlwind few weeks in our lives. This time four weeks ago we were starting to get excited about our upcoming holiday. This time three weeks ago we were packing, this time two weeks ago we were leaving New York and heading to Las Vegas. This time last week we were heading to Universal Studios in L.A., and this week I am writing this story at home, endeavoring to take in all that has occurred. Along the way we were fortunate to experience so many amazing things that etch lifetime memories in our minds. The awesomeness of New York, the emotion of 9/11 and The World Trade Centre experience and the true magic of Times Square. Going to Yankee Stadium to watch NY Yankees play, the obligatory photo with a NY policeman there, all create wonderful stories. Getting on the train in the subway and catching a taxi, just to experience the daily road madness, all will be recalled next time I see American television. Being spotted on the Australian Today Show, whilst broadcasting in New York was pretty surreal too. The opulence of Las Vegas has to be seen to be believed, and for all of its magic it leaves an eerie feeling. With so much of the planet struggling for food, the sheer grossness of immensely wealthy corporations trying to better each other is sad. Grand Canyon cannot be described in words, or photos because it is clearly has to be seen to comprehend fully. The constant thundering mass of people in one small area of Vegas is bizarre, with the rest forgotten. With so many things to do and see and I kept thinking if only we had one more day, though I know if you had it youd need another. Like your daily To Do list, you never quite squeeze everything in. In the end, you get what is important to you and you are left with fabulous memories of a whirlwind time. Nearly always at the end youve had enough and simply want to get home as I guess holiday pace can be frenetic, and you need a rest. That is really strange. So what of America, food is ordinary, coffee dreadful and American people are generally a really nice, unlike the general perception that they are loud and brash. They are no difference to us, going about their day to day duties trying to create a nice lifestyle for themselves. Though expenses explode and time really does fly, are our lives enriched by the adventure? Absolutely, in every way possible and far better to have undertaken the journey than to not have. For our son who chose to stay home to look after his disruptive cat, it has no doubt been an enriching time for him, to be in charge and have to make all of the day to day decisions. He coped beautifully and we are really proud of him because it must have been challenging at times. Plan your time and use it wisely and find time to do different things, experience different cultures, because life shouldnt be about living day to day. I have never heard of anyone on their deathbed say I wish I had have worked more because that is not how it should be, however its your choice. We chose adventure, loved it and want to know where to next. Have a great week Rodney Tattam 28th September 2014
