One Year Ago Today – European Explorer Tour – Day 14. Very early start – we’re “On The Road Again”. Through the Tuscan countryside and morning mist, to Pisa. It’s certainly a “Wow” moment as you walk alongside the city wall and into the Piazza del Duomo. The Tower isn’t as big as the pictures make it seem. Back to the coach – negotiating the hawkers and stalls. “See it, Like it, Buy it” still applies. Thanks Betty! On to towards Genoa, past the Marble quarries at Carrera, that Michelangelo used for David and The Pieta. Hugs blocks of marble alongside the autostrada. Next into the Alps. Climbing.Tunnels. Viaducts. 125 tunnels from Pisa to Monaco, and all straight, flat roads! Through the Italian Riviera, glimpses of the sea and terracotta roofs. Into Monaco. Drive the F1 track – the wrong way through the tunnel, past Portier. We walk up the “Hairpin” to the Casino. Amazed at the luxury cars, parked nearby. Inside – no hats! Then off via the Fragonard Perfumery at Eze and into Nice, only to be blocked by a bus trying to take a corner too wide. Eventually we get through and onto the French Riviera at Nice. Free time in the evening.
