One cool September morn my father took me out pike fishing. It was opening day as I recall. We had a great time reeling in pike after pike. I remember it like it was yesterday, my little yellow closed face Zebco rod and reel combo with a mepps inline spinner tied at the end of the line. I remember not wanting to go in as my dad pulled up the anchor and headed for the boat landing. Many of my firsts were in the company of my dad. My first time riding a bike, my first time tying a fishing not, my first time wading down the river fishing, my first time playing a guitar chord, my first time ice fishing, and my first time shooting a gun. Well it was a red ryder bb gun, and no I never shot my eye out with it, although I believe I almost took my brothers out. Not everyone can say they consider their father a friend. I have a certain honor and respect for him because he is my father, but the older I get the more I realize that not only is he my dad he is someone I like as a person, someone I can relate to, and someone I see a little bit more of in myself everyday. There is nobody in the world I would like to be more like than my Dad.....Thanks dad for being you...for being a father and a friend....Bob Speckin
