One day Billy asked Nancy to go to a movie with him. This has not been possible for Silver City residents since 2012 when the Real West Cinema closed its doors — and it is now possible again thanks to the grand opening of Light Hall on Western New Mexico University’s campus. This weekend is the opening for the Light Hall movie theater. Plans are for the theater to show “first-release” movies in addition to ones that have not hit the shelves for sale or rent in stores or in Redbox. Thursday will mark the first movie shown in Silver City in two years. Thursday’s event is by invitation only and will feature Disney’s “Maleficent” — the story of how the evil queen in “Sleeping Beauty” got to be the way she was, starring Angelina Jolie, according to WNMU President Joseph Shepard. For more on the Light Hall opening, including the free movies scheduled for this weekend, look for Benjamin Fishers story on the front page of this afternoons Silver City Daily Press.
