One day, a tgress attacked a herd of sheep grazing in forest. The tigress, which was with child, gave birth to a cub as a result of the shock of its own assault and died on the spot. The cub lived and grew among the sheep. It grazed and bleated along with the young sheep, ignorant of its real nature. The tiger cub developed the qualities of a sheep. A few years passed. Another tiger attacked the heard. The sheep were scatterdd and ren about. The tiger cub too started running away with the sheep. The attacking tiger saw the cub and wondered how it came to be there. He pursued it and with his jaws caught hold of its neck. The tiger cub bleated like a lamb. The old tiger took the cub to a pond and showed it its reflection in the water, and said "you, foolish child ! You and I belong to the same kind. Look, you appear the same as I. Why do you run away like a sheep ?" So saying he threw to it a bit of mutton, and said, "Eat it". At first the cub would not eat. It cried,"Ba, Ba", and felt an aversion to it. But very soon it felt the tastr of mutton. The tiger in it began to assert itself. It ate up the whole piece and asked for more.
