One evening when Gavin was three years old, I was giving him a bath and I noticed all kinds of small bruises on his back, shoulder blades, and other unusual places. Pretty typical of me, I turned to Google and began to search - every hit said this was a potential sign of leukemia. So, we took him to the pediatrician the next day. Our fears were confirmed and Gavin was diagnosed with T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia a couple weeks shy of his fourth birthday. Through all his chemotherapies, injections, hospital stays and even radiation, Gavin has maintained his amazing personality. Early on he struggled having his port accessed, but now he even takes that like a champ. We marvel at how brave and strong he is. He has an incredible imagination and is a friend to everyone he meets. He is a very serious and hardworking student who loves school. He can usually be found zipping around the block on his bike, building Legos or following his big sister around. We are happy to say that on July 7th Gavin finished his 3 years and 4 months of treatment. He is seven years old now. Being a pediatric oncology patient is all he knows. But, we are sure his future is very bright! Donate to the Palos FD team and Gavin: fireupacure/palos-fire/
