One great way to begin to put our lives on the simplicity track is to follow the “In and Out” principle. When something comes in, something must go out. When we are contemplating adding anything, we want to also decide, “What will I give away if I add this thing?” This mind-set will help to break the acquisition landslide. Much of our “adding” is done on a whim. Thinking a little in advance will save the need for taking it home, finding a place for it, or stuffing it away with the resulting additional load of maintenance. Let’s try it. We will be surprised at the positive affect it will have on our lives. God is so faithful to show us the simple way to untangle our lives. Matthew 6:19-20 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But lay up for yourselves treasure in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroy and where thieves do not break in and steal-”
