One hard touch of the gas it would have surely few apart. Here we go with another JOB OF THE WEEK. This actually drove here from Seattle. The dealer could not get the parts for at least 2 weeks and he has to get to work, so some how he found us, 3 hours later we fixed it up. I dont believe I have ever seen a U-joint this worn out and still driving. Ive made this type of repair many times in the past by welding up, die grinding and hand filing, a very time consuming method, as I have to file the hole round and hold a couple thousands of an inch tolerance. this time I had an idea. Since brass transfers heat so fast you can weld next to it and the weld will not stick to the brass, so I made a button the same size of a U-joint cap. pressed it in, welded it up, pressed it out, and with just a few minutes of grinding and filing The the ears were ready to accept a new u-joint as the hole was already a perfect press fit.
