One last piece from Peru and back to ALE tomorrow. In the town Betania, we stayed with a family of shaman under a sheet hung from a thatch roof. This man, Pedro - he also has a name in Shipibo, the native language - is the father and incredibly sweet. His wife, Anita sits next to him here and picks up a Burroughs book I had brought that illyB lent me. Pedro was really proud when we are able to show him video of his singing and speaking about music. The last night in town we all improvised together. Anita sings as well, in a consistent tonality thats in-between the common western ones. Have to wait for the film to hear that, and what she has to say. We shared music, filmed, and talked to lots of folks in the village. It will all be part of a full length documentary to come Im working on with Billy Martin. I hope it will light us up.
