One militant killed, another apprehended in Sopore: Army Srinagar, June 23 : In a joint operation by Army and JKP launched in Village Krankshiwan of District Sopore on 22 Jun 14 resulted in elimination of one militant while the second militant was apprehended alive. According to an army statement issued to KNS, Yesterday at 1600h, based on a specific intelligence input regarding presence of militants in village Krankshiwan of District Sopore, a joint operation was launched by Army, CRPF and SOG. While the initial cordon was being laid around the suspected group of houses, the militant hiding in one of the houses opened heavy volume of fire on the troops. However, troops reacted swiftly and established an effective cordon and prevented any escape by the militants . Thereafter, a fierce gun battle ensued between the security forces and militants which lasted throughout the night. Troops responded in a calibrated manner and after almost 12 hours of utmost restraint, managed to eliminate one militant while the other militant continued to engage the troops. Later in the day, while the second militant was attempting to escape, troops manning the cordon successfully manage to nab him alive. The slain militants has been identified as Mohammad Bhai, who is a foreign terrorist. The second militant who has been apprehended has been identified as Waseem, resident of Palhalan and has been handed over to Police. Both the militant belonged to LeT Tanzeem. Troops also recovered One AK 47 rifle along with two magazines, 20 rounds of ammunition and one grenade. During the operation which lasted more than 24 hours, two Jawans got injured as they sustained gunshot wounds. Their condition is stable. Chinar Corps Commander, Lt Gen Gurmit Singh has commended the troops and the commanders on ground for executing a thoroughly professional operation. He also lauded the troops as despite injuries two brave soldiers, they ensured that there was neither any collateral damage nor injury to any civilian.
