One of my close friends told me shes going on the paleo diet. So - TopicsExpress

One of my close friends told me shes going on the paleo diet. So as I explained to her, I will now explain to anyone else interested in this cave-man style garb. 1) A paleo diet is high in fat. Fat is an essential macronutrient that we all need, but not in high amounts. People who follow the paleo diet long-term end up with atherosclerosis, coronary artery disease. Mummies of our hunter-gatherer ancestors were shown to have atherosclerosis caused by their diet that played a role in the short lifespans of humans at that time. High-fat diets will lead to heart disease, heart attacks, strokes, high triglycerides, gout, type 2 diabetes, endometrial cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, colorectal cancer, & a plethora of other medical conditions. 2) Depriving yourself of carbohydrates, your bodys primary source of fuel, is starving your brain. The brain needs glucose to function & a diet low in carbohydrates will adversely impact cognitive ability. Thats why low-carb dieters suffer from low energy & poor mental concentration. I know quite a few people in person & they told me that they would secretly binge on carbohydrate-rich foods to keep them going. A lot of testimonials online from ex-paleo people say the same. 3) Paleo gurus claim that carbohydrates make you fat. If that were true then me & every other vegan who eats a whole food, plant-based, high-carb diet would be fat. The fat you eat is the fat you wear. I’ve covered this topic so many times before so I won’t go into detail. If you’re reading this then you have access to internet. Research it yourself. 4) If you’re not planning on following a plant-based paleo diet & instead eating loads of animal products as they have little to no carbohydrates, you’re basically digging your own grave with your fork. Meat & dairy raises IGF-1(insulin-like growth factor) in the blood, which raises your risk of developing cancer (most commonly colon, rectal, breast, & prostate), significantly. Not only that, but you’re consuming hormones from another species that don’t belong in humans. This can throw off your testosterone & estrogen levels. It can cause you to break out & have mood swings as well. Dairy & eggs are especially harmful to women as they inhibit iron absorption. Meat has the opposite effect. It’s rich in heme iron & too much will lead to hemochromatosis. My point is this: you may lose a bit of weight on the paleo diet, but is a trivial amount of weight loss worth putting yourself at an extremely high risk of serious health conditions?
