One of my dear friends, Tameka Reynolds, posted this question a few days ago on her Facebook page: After a certain age & the let downs and disappointments of love/life, do excitement & butterflies STILL have a fighting chance in love? With her permission I am reposting my response. It is a wee bit long (imagine that) but the Readers Digest version is simple ... DARE TO LOVE AGAIN! :-) ========================================================= Gee ... how did I miss this one ... so much happening on Facebook daily! Look, when relationships fail, for whatever reasons ... IT HURTS! The temptation is to callous over, but that is the worst mistake you could possibly make. In 2010 I realized it was time for me to begin dating towards marriage, after 10 years of licking my wounds from a bitter divorce! :-O That mess hurt big time, and shut me down emotionally, but by Gods good grace I healed up (although at the time I did not know it) and outta da proverbial cave I came. Since then I have had a couple of girlfriends, been engaged twice, and guess what ... more pain! I have hurt and been hurt, but the journey continues. At the end of day my trust is in God, not people! :-) I refuse to go back to that dark place I was in 5 years ago. I am at heart an incurable romantic, and I believe Gods promises for relationships between men and women, love, marriage and family. I have learned so much about myself, women and most importantly God himself! The journey is as important as the destination people, so each and every new relationship she gets ALL that I am ... the full Terry so to speak! :-) She gets my heart, soul, emotions, mind, time, money ... EVERYTHING. If it works, great. If not, it wont be because I was holding something back. When God truly places my Queen in my path she deserves to see and hear everything that makes Terry Gilmore who and what he is! :-) Is doing this over and over again easy ... HECK NO. Is it critical to my goal of dating, courtship, engagement and ultimately marriage .... YEAH BOYIE, so that journey continues with a renewed and completely hopefully heart! :-) Tameka Reynolds shared this song with me a few months back, and the lyrics blessed my heart ... my prayer is the same will occur for those who listen to it now ... dont give up on love people! Not love the way the world defines it, which is shallow and fickle ... but the way GOD himself defines and exemplifies it in how he loves us each and every day! :-) Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. - 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 youtube/watch?v=xfIwbJlb8Pg
