One of my default coffee joints just closed down. Take Time was a particular favorite many mornings of the week. It was a pleasing and homey place that served Saltspring Island coffee. The reason: too much competition from the chains. They already had to contend with Timmys and McDonalds down the street. And then with the new Timmys, as well as Starbucks at the other end of Lerwick it became a no-go. So when we exhort people to buy local, consider your coffee as part of that mix. Chains survive but little guys dont. And there are lots of good local coffee options. Use them, I suggest.
