One of my favorite childhood artists was African singer, Miriam - TopicsExpress

One of my favorite childhood artists was African singer, Miriam Makeba. She was married to famous jazz artist, Hugh Masekela. I remember her well because she was also an outspoken champion against Apartheid in South Africa. In the community I lived in, including the house I lived in, all cheered her efforts, along with that of Steve Biko (Who was assassinated by the South African government), Sidney Poitier, Bill Cosby, Harry Belafonte and so many others who championed freedom for the people of South Africa. I have her music even today. I share this song with you, which she performed in one of my favorite Poitier classics: A Warm December. On my bucket list is a trip to Africa. I have friends that have Irish, Scottish, English, and even Jewish heritage, who have all traveled abroad to the land of their forefathers. They tell me it was an almost spiritual experience. If the Lord is willing, I hope to visit Africa next summer. youtube/watch?v=WrBq4rsj8fg
