One of my favorite pieces by Brahms. Passionate and dramatic, but with a heavenly middle section, one of his most beautiful passages to my musical ear. It lifts me. He was such a master at reinterpreting his melodic material with new harmonic directions and rhythmic variations, thats part of his compositional genius. Other great composers also did this wonderfully, but his ways of doing this are particularly brilliant and unsurpassed. Worthy of close study and emulation by composers today (not necessarily literally in his style, but to take inspiration from his brilliant demonstration of how to repeat compositional ideas with new inspirations and fresh perspectives). https://youtube/watch?v=eMHvmHnyp-g
