One of my favorite questions is, So what? But it betrays my penchant for practicality. After all, what good is information if it doesnt produce a result? Because of that proclivity, I find myself in constant search of therefores for every sermon. However, I think Im in good company. It seems that Paul also used that term often. He would frequently state the theological case only to follow it with the practical outcome--the therefore. But what do you do when the topic is God? Whats the so what in talking about sovereignty or providence or transcendence? Or, as is the case today, the Trinity? The mystery of Gods diversity in the midst of unity boggles the mind. But, does it lend itself to practical application? What are the therefores of Gods Triune nature? Its not that they arent evident, they are. But is it somehow reductionist to try to condense this enormous Biblical theme to something practical? I hope not, because thats my plan for the morning...
